The Chief Executive Officer of Lakers Club in Ikorodu, Mr Dimeji Ogunfolaju, has been arrested alongside many other patrons on the premises of the club in a raid that lasted for hours between the night of Friday, March 6 and the wee hours of the following day.

THE IMPACT gathered that over 50 patrons of the club were arrested in the raid that started around 10pm.

While some eyes witness stated that the raid was conducted by the men of the State Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), others claimed that it was the men of the Economic Fraud Crime Commission (EFCC) that raided the popular club located along Ipakodo-Igbogbo road in Ikorodu.

We also gathered that heavily armed Mobile Police (MOPOL) officers stormed the club premises on Sunday (March 8) night with about five Hiace buses for further raid and allegedly removed some of Dimeji’s luxury vehicles during the operation.

According to a source very close to the owner of the club, he told our reporter that the raid on Friday night was conducted by the men of the EFCC.

He also said that some of those arrested have been released on bail and are back in their respective houses.

“Well, the raid was true and it was conducted by officers from the EFCC. They stormed the club and arrested him (Dimeji) and many others that came to enjoy themselves at Lakers.

“In actual fact, three of those that are very well known to me were also arrested but they have been released yesterday (Sunday) on bail”, he stated.

He also added that many of the arrested patrons are still in the custody of the anti-fraud agency as at the time of granting this interview to our reporter.

“Just this morning, another friend of mine went to their office to secure the release of his brother but we are yet to hear from him. I will update you as soon as I hear anything from him”, he promised.

Meanwhile, other sources that spoke with our reporter stated that the EFCC team raided the club to arrest many young guys who are allegedly into fraudulent activities and who have chosen the club as a place to spend the wealth they got from their fraudulent activities.

It would be recalled that Lakers Club was raided in January 2019 by the officers of the Anti-Cultism Unit of the Lagos State Police Command who stormed the club premises in civilian clothes and dispossessed patrons of their valuables.

The identity of the officers were later revealed after the management of the club released the Closed-circuit television footage.

The club was deserted when our reporter visited this morning.
