Chief Benson Plans Book On His Last Years

Former National President of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) and the Asiwaju of Ikorodu Kingdom, Sir (Chief) Babatunde Benson, SAN, KJW, has revealed that he is currently working on a new book to document activities of his last years.

The legal luminary made the revelation at the launching of the book titled, ’Journey of Grace: Methodist Church Nigeria, Diocese of Ikorodu’, written in commemoration of the twenty-five years anniversary of the inauguration of Patriarch Bolaji Methodist Church, Ita-Elewa in Ikorodu, Lagos State, Southwest, Nigeria, as a Diocese at the Church auditorium on Wednesday, January 29, 2020.

Chief Benson, while emphasising the importance of keeping records to human developments, stated that he is working on his new book titled, “Last lap of my years”.

“I am trying to write another book. The book is called the ‘last lap of my years’. I am now close to 88 but everything about myself has already been written about but there is this (his contribution to the formation of the Diocese) and so many other things that came late”, he stated.

He stated that parts of the book launched in commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the inauguration of Methodist Church Ikorodu as a Diocese which he played a major role in its establishment will reflect in his new book.

He also pledged to accommodate some of the lapses pointed out in the Church anniversary book by the reviewer, Very Revd. Sunday Oluwole Adegbola.

“This book (on 25th anniversary of Methodist Church Ikorodu Diocese) is going to be part of the book that I am working on. I will also acknowledge Bro Adegbola’s comment (reviewer of the book) on the work that I had done 25 years ago.

“Everyone of us must have it but unfortunately, the Methodist Church Nigeria does not keep records. The book is actually what its reflects and I thank God immensely for everything”.

It was also revealed at the event that the traditional rulers in Ikorodu division have concluded plan to install Chief Benson as the ‘Asiwaju’ of Ikorodu Division.

Otunba Ayodele Elesho, a former Lagos State Commissioner for Information  and the Agbaakin of Ikorodu Kingdom, made the revelation.

Chief Benson will clock 88 years on July 4, 2020.
