Pa Tunji Owolabi’s Death: Veteran Broadcaster To Be Buried In March

The remains of the veteran broadcaster, Pa Tunji Owolabi, has been scheduled to be committed to the mother earth in March 2020 according to family sources.

Pa Owolabi, popularly called ‘Owo-Blow’, ‘Gbeborun’ and ‘Baba Owo’ by his admirers and friends, died at the General Hospital, lkorodu, in the early morning of Sunday, January 5, 2020, after a brief illness. His remains, according  to report, has since been deposited at the hospital’s mortuary.

According to the family members of the deceased, the Service of Songs is scheduled to hold on Friday, March 20, 2020, while the remains of the veteran journalist would be buried on Saturday, March 21, in Ikorodu.

Meanwhile, more tributes have continued to pour in for the late reporter who worked with the Punch newspaper and Lagos Television (LTV).

Chairman of the Ikorodu Local Government, Hon. Wasiu Adesina, described him as the best journalist of this generation, stating that he was dedicated and committed to his reportorial duties.

“Tunji Owolabi is the best journalist of our time.He always takes his job seriously. May his soul rest in perfect peace”,  Hon. Adesina stated.

The Editor of Oriwu Sun newspaper, Hadj Kazeem Ganiu-Sanni, described the deceased as a fantastic journalist who cherished his profession and gave it all his best.

“Pa Owolabi was a fantastic journalist who cherished journalism as a profession. He was so good in grassroots reporting and was a father to all up and coming reporters. He will be missed for his exemplary conduct and fatherly advice. Adieu Papa Owolabi”, Hadj Kazeem wrote.

A former editor with the Factor Newsmagazine, Comrade Oloyede Aladepupo, in his own tribute, briefly stated:

“God rest his soul. Amen “.

Odunayo Gbenga Adekunle-Olayide, a unionist and senior local government staff, also wrote:

“May his soul rest in perfect peace “.

Brief Profile oF Pa Tunji Owolabi

Pa Olatunji Owolabi was born on August 5, 1938, to the famous Oniororo family of Otun, now in Ekiti State. He had his early education in Otun- Ekiti and proceeded to Berlin, Germany, for his advance education in journalism. He began his career at Punch newspapers and later moved on to Radio Lagos where he retired after a successful career.

He covered many beats in Ikorodu and Epe divisions of Lagos State until his death.

He was survived by his wife, children and grandchildren.
