Lagos SWAN Hails Appointment Of New DG, Lagos Sports Commission

Mr Toyin Gafar Bolowotan

The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, Lagos Chapter has commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on the appointment of Mr. Oluwatoyin Gaffar Bolowotan as new Director-General, Lagos State Sports Commission, saying that it is an indication of the government’s intention to develop sports at the grassroots.

In a release, the Chairman, Debo Oshundun, stated the appointment of Bolowotan is like putting a round peg in a round hole because the appointee is a renowned football club owner and sports administrator.

In his words, “This, we believe is a new dawn for athletes in Lagos State as his years of experience will reflect on athletes’ welfare and be a source of motivation to them”.

Oshundun said that members of Lagos SWAN have always been at the forefront of the clamour for the appointment of professional stakeholders into key administrative positions in the sports sector.

“If the government will not always appoint unqualified persons as Commissioner of Health because of the importance attached to it, then government at all levels must also pay special attention to the choices in the sports sector”, he asserted.

The body also congratulated Bolowotan on his appointment and described him as a “Child of Necessity”, expressing optimism that his appointment will arrest the dwindling fortunes of sports, especially its development at the grassroots in Lagos State.
