The management of the Lagos State Polytechnic (LASPOTECH), Ikorodu, has reacted to the protest by the staff members of the institution and that of the Lagos State University, Ojo, during the May Day Celebration in Agege on Wednesday, May 1, 2019.

Speaking with THE IMPACT, the Deputy Registrar (Information) & Public Relations Officer of the institution, Mr Olanrewaju Kuye, stated that the protesters were just the aggrieved staff members of the institution and not the entire workforce.

“The protesters were only the aggrieved members of the unions.

“Their opinions were personal and do not represent the view of all staff members.”

He stated that lectures and administrative activities are ongoing in all the campuses of the institution.

He also added that the Part-Time students are also writing their examinations unhindered.

“Presently, lectures are on going on all our campuses and all the students are at peace.

“In fact, our Part-Time students are currently writing exams. It is only the aggrieved unions members that are protesting.”

Some aggrieved academics and non-academics staff members of the Lagos State Polytechnic, Ikorodu and Lagos State University, Ojo, had, on Wednesday,  stormed the Agege Stadium, venue of the May Day rally, and took over activities at the celebration for over 20 minutes which disrupted the scheduled programmes.

They alleged that the State Government had refused to address their grievances after several letters and violated laid down procedures for proper administration of the institution.

They refused all entreaties to make them allow the ceremony to continue.
