Green House Garners 15 Gold To Win 15th Edition of LATLAM Sports Competition

The 15th edition of the Lateef Lamina Memorial (LATLAM) Montessori, Nursery and College held at the Oriwu Model College playing ground on Thursday, April 11, 2019, has been won by the Green house with 15 gold, 13 silver, and 6 bronze.

The house also scored 72% to win the match past of the sporting competition which was chaired by Comrade Japheth Odesanya, the Publisher/Editor-in-Chief of the Factor Newsmagazine and former Secretary to the Ikorodu Local Government.

Blue house emerged the 1st runner-up with 14 gold, 6 silver and 9 bronze while Yellow house won 7 gold, 16 silver and 8 bronze and Pink house garnered 6 gold, 6 silver and 17 bronze to emerged 2nd and 3rd runners-up respectively.

The Collegiate competition, which featured 100m, 200m, 4x100m relay race and Ludo, Whot, Scrabble and Monopoly games, ended in a tie as Pioneer and Pacesetter sporting houses garnered 14 gold (Boys 7 gold and 7 silver) apiece.

In the invitational relay race, Ansar-ul-Deen primary school, Igbogbo, emerged the winner while HOMAT Group of Schools and Fad Far Primary School emerged second and third respectively.

In his opening speech at the sporting event, Comrade Japthet Odesanya commended the proprietress of the school for keeping the torch of excellence burning and for sustaining the sporting event since inception 15 years ago.

He stated that the school is embarking on total development of the students by combining academics with sporting activities.

“Alhaji Lamina, the proprietress of this school, is deserving of our commendations and support. She has been doing wonderfully well with the development of the school and our kids.

“I have known her for credibility, integrity and passion for educational development”, Hon.  Odesanya stated.

He pledged to give free advert to the school in every edition of his paper as part of is own support.

Meanwhile, Alhaja Kudirat Lamina,  in her own speech, commended the parents and guests for their support for the school.

“Your presence here today has assured us that you are interested in the all round development of your children and wards. I have no doubt that your children will be at their best knowing that you are cheering them up.

She stated that sporting activities are important to education and social development.

“Games as essential parts of the school co-curricular activities provide for the physical well-being of the students. For this reason, the Ministry of Education ensures that sports activities are organized every two years by the schools in the country.

“It will be an overstatement if I say that it is only in sport that the world speaks in one voce, Nigerians in particular. In the same vein, I believe that you will forget your troubles and your individual differences as you watch your children relive their past glories to break a myth with their wonderful performances in this sporting event.

Among sporting activities participated in by the pupils of the Montessori and Nursery sections of Lateef Lamina Memorial Schools at the event were Foundation race 200m, tiny toes 30m, Nursery race 50m, Inter –primary race 100m, Filling the basket, Egg and Spoon race, Sorting of colours, Bursting of balloons , Running with skipping ropes, Walk-in Daddy’s shoes, Blind mice and Sack race.

Among other guests at the event were Mrs Bisiriyu Tawakalitu, Chairperson of the event, Alhaja Abiodun Ogunniyi, Principal, Oriwu Senior Model College, Ikorodu, Mr Osikoya Abdullateef Ajala, Chairman, LATLAM Parents-Teachers Forum, and Mr Azeez Lamina , Publisher, Waves Magazine.
