Lagos Ministry of Information To Enhance Operations At Divisional Offices

Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Kehinde Bamigbetan has disclosed that measures are underway to enhance the operations of the State’s five information divisional offices in Ikeja, Badagry, Ikorodu, Lagos Island and Epe.

Speaking during an interview with newsmen during the week in his office, Bamigbetan said the upgrade becomes necessary to ensure that residents in the five divisions have real-time access to information emanating from the government and major stakeholders within their communities.

According to the Commissioner, equipment in the offices would be upgraded while necessary personnel would be trained on how to disseminate information via the various social media handles to be created for each division, in addition to upgrading the physical infrastructure to meet modern-day media institutions of the 21st century.

“We will ensure that personnel with the appropriate experience are deployed to the divisional offices to supervise and consistently train personnel towards achieving excellence in their duties. Accommodation will also be provided to ensure that the staffers reside within the communities to keep them abreast of activities within their environment so as to provide feedback to government,”, he added.

Bamigbetan stressed further that the Ministry would expand the staff base to give adequate coverage to the activities in each community for greater dissemination of information through the print, electronic and social media channels of the government.

He affirmed that all departments within the Ministry will be represented at the divisional offices to enhance professionalism as well as give up to date information on government policies, programmes and activities.

To back up the position, Bamigbetan said: “The Lagos Bus Reform project will witness an injection of about 820 buses into the transportation system to further ease the transportation problem that results from the daily migration of Nigerians from other States in their quest to benefit from the good governance enjoyed by residents of Lagos State”.

The Commissioner posited, therefore, that such a programme and the Lagos State Health Insurance Scheme, among others needed to be well communicated to all residents.

He assured Lagosians that the administration is taking focused steps to ensure that there is no communication gap between the government and the various communities so as to create a greater understanding of policies and programmes and engender effective feedback for the overall development of the State and the well-being of the citizenry.
