Lagos Deputy Governor, Asiwaju Basorun, Prince Ogunleye, Others Honoured With Merit Award

The Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. (Mrs) Idiat Oluranti Adebule, the first Secretary to the Lagos State Government, Asiwaju Reuben Olorunfunmi Bashorun and a reknowned accountant and philanthropist, Prince Olabode Sunday Ogunleye, were among the eminent personalities honoured by the Ikorodu Division Resource Development Group (IDRDG) on Saturday, November 10, 2018.

 

They were honoured for their outstanding contributions to the society during the 18th Memorial Lecture of the former Deputy Vice Chancellor of University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) and an illustrious son of Ikorodu, Prof. A.A. Adegbola, held in Ikorodu Town Hall, Ikorodu.

 

Dr Idiat Adebule was a former Secretary to the State Government, former member, Lagos State Scholarship Board, former Commissioner in the Lagos State PP-TESCOM, former Coordinator of Lagis State University (LASU) Sandwish Degree Programme and former lecturer at the Lagos State College of Education and Lagos State University.

Asiwaju Olorunfunmi Basorun was a banker, legal luminary and politician.

He was also a former Secretary to the Lagos State Government between 1979 and 1983, former Lagos State  Commissioner for Education in1983, a former Director, Central Bank of Nigeria and a former Consulting Director, Igbogbo Community Bank.

He is also the Managing Director, ROMO Nigeria Limited and former Chairman, IDRDG.

 

Prince Bode Sunday Ogunleye is a Chartered Account and Philanthropist extraordinary. He is also a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.

 

Ogunleye, who is a Prince of Ikorodu Kingdom, was also a former Chairman, Governing Council of Lagos State Market Development Board (LSMDB), past President, Oriwu Club (No.1 member), first Chairman, Ikorodu Town Hall Management Committee and past Chairman, IDRDG.

 

Also at the event, HRM, Oba Richard Ogunsanya, the Olubeshe of Ibeshe and Alhaji (High  Chief) Abdul R. Olatinde Shitta,the Olisa of Ipakodo and former regent of Ipakodo, were  conferred with Royal (Merit) awards.

Oba Ogunsanya is the Chief Executive Officer, Ash-Bod Holdings and R.A. Abayomi and Sons.

 

He served in the Nigerian Air Force for 10 years and studied Building Technology at Yaba College of Technology, Yaba, Lagos.

 

The monarch, who was upgraded to First Class Oba in 2017, is a member, Lagos State Ijebu Traditional Rulers and Ikorodu Chieftaincy Committee and Life Patron of many clubs and societies.

 

Chief Shitta is the Chief Executive Officer, Abrashitts and Sons Limited. He obtained Trade Test Grade III Certificate in 1962 and also acquired Skill Acquistion in Auto Mechanic in 1964. He worked briefly with Electricity Corporation Nigeria (ECN) and later joined the Nigeria Air Force as a Driver Mechanic.

 

Other merit awardees at the event were :

Prof. Oluwafeyisola Sylvester Adegoke, a Professor of Geology, former Dean, Faculty of Science, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, a National Merit Award Scholar, former Editor, Journal of Mining and Geology and Founding Member, Nigerian Academy of Science.

Prof. Wale Omole, was a former Vice Chancellor, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, the 1st ex-student of the institution to become the Vice Chancellor, an Emeritus Professor and Chairman, Editorial  Board of the Guardian Newspaper.

 

Dame Chief (Mrs) Adunola Olabisi Benson was the Founder, Ikorodu High School, former Principal, Ikorodu High School, and the Founder and Proprietor, Olabisi Adunola Benson Nursery and Primary School, Ikorodu.
