After about five months after his emergence, the final coronation ceremony of Alaiyeluwa His Royal Majesty Alaiyeluwa Oba (Engr.) Bashir Aremu Sotonwa, Bsc (Hons), FNSE, Osomeku 1, the Sekumade of Ipakodo in Ikorodu West Local Council Development Area of Ikorodu Division of Lagos, Southwest Nigeria was held on Saturday, April 4, 2018.
The impressive ceremony took place at the Ikorodu Ferry Terminal at Ebutein Ikorodu West Local Council Development Area with many traditional rulers, political office holders and other important dignitaries attending.
The Lagos State Executive Council had approved the selection of Engr. Sotonwa, who hails from the Oshomekun ruling house, as Oba-Elect at its meeting held on Wednesday, December 20, 2017, after he emerged as the most preferred candidate for the Sekumade stool which became vacant after the demise of late monarch about 19years ago.
The Kabiyesi was presented with the staff of office by the Governor of Lagos State, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode on Thursday , February 1,2018, and thereafter entered ‘Ipebi’ as required by the tradition.
At the final coronation ceremony were HRM Oba Ajibade Agoro, the Ranodu of Imota, HEM Oba Semiudeen Kasali, the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo, HRM Oba Richard Ogunsanya, the Olubeshe of Ibeshe, Hon. Babajimi Benson, Hon. Sanai Agunbiade, Hon. (Princess) Jumoke Jimbo-Ademehin, Hon. Wasiu Adeshina, Hon. Adeola Banjo, Comrade Sesan Daini and Alhaji Aremu Sule, former President of Oriwu Club among others.
